Ashesi
Founder, Patrick Awuah was selected as a recipient of the
2009 Microsoft Alumni Foundation "Integral Fellow" award.
The award honors Microsoft Alumni who have made a meaningful
difference in the daily lives of others by using their
talents, time and resources to contribute to the community. |

Ashesi

a highly competitive field of applicants to receive the 2009
John P. McNulty Prize. The Prize
recognizes an
extraordinary young leader making creative, effective, and
lasting contributions to his or her community and is given
annually to an Aspen Institute Fellow. |

hosts evening event for hiring managers
Ashesi’s
Career Office, this month, organized an evening event to thank
the university’s corporate partners. Over a hundred corporate
institutions—ranging from financial to non-government were
represented. Members of faculty, staff and some students joined
in this celebration of hiring managers and institutions at the M
Plaza hotel, Accra. |

Ashesi
breaks ground on new campus
Hundreds
of local and international supporters gathered to celebrate
the ground breaking of a new campus for Ashesi University in
Ghana. On this campus, Ashesi University will expand its
work of educating the ethical and entrepreneurial leaders
that Africa urgently needs. The new campus will
feature a library, computer labs, classrooms, faculty and
administrative offices and student dormitories. |

Ashesi welcomes the Class of 2013
It was all
excitement in the week of August 17, 2009 when the Ashesi
community welcomed the class of 2013 to campus. The 145
students who showed up for orientation were selected from an
applicant pool of 503. This class represents 29% of
applicants and is Ashesi’s largest intake to date. With an
equal ratio of men to women, this class embodies Ashesi’s
ideal of gender balance on campus. |

Ashesi's President Patrick Awuah is featured in the CBS News
blog, Political Hotsheet that explores the impact of
President Obama's visit to Ghana. Dr. Awuah states, "with
the emergence of democratic government in Ghana, we have
seen the opening of markets so that everyone can participate
in the free market." |

Ashesi joins international partners to host research
workshops across Africa
Ashesi
University is one of three universities in Africa selected
to organize and host workshops to train junior faculty in
rigorous qualitative research methods. The “Network of
Excellence for Qualitative Research Methods; Sub-Saharan
Africa” project is supported
by the EDULINK programme.
The
project’s aim is to
enhance the independent capacity of
Sub-Saharan Africa’s institutions of higher education to
conduct rigorous and innovative qualitative and multi-method
social science research. |

The Class of 2009 graduates
On
Saturday, May 30, 2009, Ashesi University College graduated its
fifth class, the Class of 2009. Fifty four members of the
Class of 2009 were presented with degrees in Computer
Science, Management Information Systems and Business
Administration. |

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, invests in Ashesi
The IFC, a member of the World
Bank Group, is investing $2.5 million in Ashesi University
College. The loan will enable Ashesi to construct a
permanent campus that will provide a world-class academic
environment for African students. |
