Ashesi Community Powerwalk
By Seyram Ahiabor, Class of 2005

On Saturday, September 3, 2005, the Sports Committee of the
Ashesi Student Council (ASC) in conjunction with the Welfare
Committee, Entertainment Committee and the Health Centre of
Ashesi University organized a power walk in order to psyche
up members of the Ashesi Community for another long
semester. The walk was from the Ashesi Apartments located
behind Southern Fried Chicken near Danquah Circle to the
Airport Roundabout and back. The walk began with a short
warm-up session of about 5 minutes led by Lionel Nunoo of
the 2006 CS class. The group set off on the walk at 6:15am.
A total of 22 people showed up for the walk. Prominent
amongst the participants were the Associate Director of
Development, Mr. Matthew Taggart and Julia Lowe, an
undergraduate student from the University of Washington.
Even though most of the participants were men, the ladies
who were present showed that they had what it took to go
through with the walk. Special mention goes to Joyce Okyere
who was simply marvelous with the kind of determination she
put up throughout the course.
The route of the walk was as follows:
Start: Ashesi

-> AFGO
Turn: Airport
Roundabout

Bimpong-Buta a.k.a Picasso, Chairman of the Welfare
Committee of the Ashesi Student Council exhibited his department’s support for
the walk by providing his car as the official emergency
vehicle for any participant who could not complete the
course. He was also on hand to convey refreshments to all
the participants at the end of the walk.
To all those
who participated in the walk, good show!! Keep it up!! And
to those who missed it, do not worry, there is more to come!
