June 2004ORIENTATION 2004

Class of 2006
Monday, April 19, 2004 marked the first day of orientation for Ashesi's class of 2007. Characteristic of new people at new places, there were many wallflowers and seemingly anti-social faces amongst the lot. We all knew this would only be temporary. It was fun to watch the faces brighten up as each of the students got to know each other a little better during the ice breaker exercises. I can already see that a lot of bonding is taking place amongst them.
I was glad to be one of the student members of the Welcoming Committee. As continuing students, we recall that not long ago, we were exactly where the class of 2007 was at that moment. The least we could do was to offer them a rousing welcome that they deserved. Besides, who is better qualified than the continuing students to "show them the ropes."
The past few days of interaction with the class of 2007 have shown how increasingly diverse the Ashesi community has become. There are people from all walks of life amongst them; Christians, Moslems and Atheists too. Ambitions within this class range from owning large companies to leading guerilla movements. One thing I know for sure is that the class of 2007 is full of talent and intellect. I have no doubt that they are a positive addition to the Ashesi Community. Class of 2007, we welcome you once again!
