ASHESI: A PLACE FOR MANY BEGINNINGS
By Keren Mettle-Nunoo
Class of 2006
I
In the beginning of the beginning,
A young man Patrick Awuah,
Gave Ghanaians an ultimate gift,
To fill a vacuum that cried for attention,
Behold a star, a star in the north of Labone.
We need no more stars for our universities are enough,
But like a river moving in anger,
To feed the thirsty distant lands,
Ashesi sprung up to life on February 25, 2002,
And thirsty students bore witnesses,
To this great emancipation from educational starvation.
With amazing and enthusiastic lecturers,
Experts in the academics of the liberal arts,
The challenge for greater heights,
Was thrown to all sons and daughters of innovation,
Patrick Awuah, Ayekoo.
II
You have shown the world,
That there is a place for many beginnings,
And that, there is no art to judge intelligence in the image of grey hair,
The philosophy, the facilities, the people,
Is a firm example of success.
National and international, Ashesi has stretched her arms,
Inviting to her fold, all lovers of learning and change,
From the tendencies of academic anachronism,
Behold, the touch of academic excellence is raised,
People who love good campus life, excellent housing and health facilities,
Marvelous work study programs and wonderful unmatchable lecturers,
This is your time; Ashesi is your home,
And a place for many beginnings indeed,
Patrick Awuah, Ayekoo,
Ashesi you are welcome.
