THE EXPERIENCE THAT IS ASHESI

By Sara Mills
Class of 2007

As a student of Ashesi University, you swim in an ocean of possibilities; the campus, the facilities, the people, the classes, and the clubs. Ashesi provides students with the fundamental tools to become the master of his/her destiny. The faculty and students provide one with the knowledge and confidence they need to be successful. At Ashesi, with its pillars of scholarship, leadership ad citizenship, the focus is on the individual and consequently each person receives the necessary nourishment to develop into their own unique person.

What does university mean to you? Is it a place where you are free to rediscover who you are? To interact with a diverse group of people? These are the questions that I asked myself when I wanted to decide where to go for my tertiary education. Ashesi is the best: it has so many academic and extracurricular opportunities and room for expansion.

Ashesi is like a home away from home. It is a place where the Dean of Admissions, despite her busy schedule, has time to say "hello" and find out how you are. It is also an environment whereby you can walk into any faculty member's office and find that they have the time to have a conversation with you. As a member of the Ashesi family, I recognize and appreciate the fact that people are genuinely getting to me and are opening up their hearts to a newcomer. The best possible education one can get in Ghana is at Ashesi.

Without a doubt, the pace of life at Ashesi is very rigorous yet one can confidently say that the Ashesi experience is an excellent teacher. In the classroom, computer lab and library, there is always the potential for intellectual growth. Through a rich and varied curriculum, students are presented with innumerable chances to think critically and learn about the world around us. Through intensive class discussions, Ashesi students feel as though they have a voice and that their thoughts and opinions are taken seriously.

I chose Ashesi because I wanted to go to an institution that would both challenge and fascinate me. One of the best things about this school is the incredible relationships that one can make with both faculty members and other students. I have made valuable friends by interacting with people of different cultures and gender. I have learned to appreciate people and to express my appreciation in return. Ashesi's atmosphere allows me to develop into a mature individual by giving me options and challenges. For the quality, variety and depth of Ashesi's academic and extracurricular offering, Ashesi is at the forefront of Ghanaian private education.
