Volunteers are an important component to Ashesi's success. Volunteers contribute to Ashesi's mission by hosting fundraising events, sharing their expertise with our students and faculty, and connecting us with individuals, organizations and individuals that are interested in helping us build a world-class university in Africa. There are many ways you can use your skills and passion to support Ashesi’s work. Volunteers can visit us in Ghana, work at the Foundation office in Seattle, or from their home. To learn more about any of the volunteer opportunities listed below, please call us at 206-545-6988 or email Decide how you would like to get involved:
Online Advocate - We need advocates who will help grow Ashesi’s online community through Twitter, Facebook, and the blogosphere. Help us identify what blogs we should be reaching out to, retweet from @Ashesi, or promote Ashesi’s Facebook page to your network. We are also looking for online advocates who can help develop our social networking strategies -- How can we leverage these technologies to draw attention to our project and keep people engaged? Mailing Volunteer - Three times each year we host a party at our Seattle office to stuff envelopes for our fundraising mailings. This is a great chance to meet others who are passionate about creating homegrown leadership in Africa! Guest Lecturer - Volunteers can come and share their expertise in our classrooms. We try to bring real world experiences into our classrooms as much as possible. We teach a wide range of subjects. A person simply need to commit to attend one class session as part of a Ghanaian vacation package if they wish. Volunteers may also develop a “case” or teaching module which they come and teach for a week as a supplement to an existing course. Executive in Residence - The program invites professional volunteers to work with a single class for an entire semester (3 months). The volunteer will work with an Ashesi lecturer to help teach a course in an area of their expertise. The volunteer provides expert advice, academic counseling and mentoring to our students throughout the semester. This is a great way to really get to know our students and West Africa in a meaningful way. Mentor a student - People can volunteer as an Ashesi mentor. This is a one year program that matches a person with a single student who shares some of their interests. The volunteer will commit to communicating at least once a month with their mentee to provide career and academic advice. This can be conducted via phone, VOIP, email or instant messenger. |
