Ashesi joins international partners to host research
workshops across Africa
Ashesi
University is one of three universities in Africa selected
to organize and host workshops to train junior faculty in
rigorous qualitative research methods. The “Network of
Excellence for Qualitative Research Methods; Sub-Saharan
Africa” project is supported
by the EDULINK programme.
The
project’s aim is to
enhance the independent capacity of
Sub-Saharan Africa’s institutions of higher education to
conduct rigorous and innovative qualitative and multi-method
social science research. |

The Class of 2009 graduates
On
Saturday, May 30, 2009, Ashesi University College graduated its
fifth class, the Class of 2009. Fifty four members of the
Class of 2009 were presented with degrees in Computer
Science, Management Information Systems and Business
Administration. |

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, invests in Ashesi
The IFC, a member of the World
Bank Group, is investing $2.5 million in Ashesi University
College. The loan will enable Ashesi to construct a
permanent campus that will provide a world-class academic
environment for African students. |

Ashesi students modify MIT software for mobile phones
Ashesi Computer Science
students Kofi Manful and Adwoa Osei-Pianim are helping to
improve health care for rural populations by modifying
software developed at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology (MIT) that allows doctors in the United States to
diagnose patients via their mobile phones. |

NAPE Foundation supports eight Ashesi
University College students
Eight
Ashesi students have been awarded the “Lee Nusich
Scholarship” by the Naa Amerley Palm Education (NAPE)
Foundation. The NAPE Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization based in Portland, Oregon with a subsidiary in
Accra, Ghana. The Foundation seeks to promote higher
educational opportunities among Ghanaians by providing
scholarships for students to attend High Schools and
Universities. |

Ashesi
student receives study abroad scholarship
Nana Ama
Akosa, Class of 2010 will receive a scholarship and travel
expenses to attend Babson College in the United States for a one
semester exchange programme, starting in January 2009. Babson,
which is currently ranked by US News & World Report as
the “#1 university for entrepreneurship education” and by
Newsweek/Kaplan as the “Hottest College for Business” in the
United States, has developed a partnership with Ashesi over the
last three years due to a similar mission and teaching
philosophy. |
