Commencement 2008
On Saturday, May 24, 2008, Ashesi
hosted its fourth graduation ceremony. In a stirring speech,
Class Speaker Anida Acquah declared of her class, "Today,
we are not faced with the fears of our inadequacy but fear
of the power we possess to succeed and to stir up change." |

Ashesi hosts first Social Research Methods fair for
undergrads
On
Saturday, April 19, 2008, Ashesi held its first ever Social
Research Methods fair. The fair which was a capstone event
to a 12 weeks course, is pioneering
new pedagogical standards for social science research in
Ghana. |

DreamOval Donates to Ashesi Scholarship Fund
DreamOval
Ltd., a software development company founded by five Ashesi
alumni have made a donation to the Dr. Princess Awoonor-Williams
Scholarship Fund. The donation will support
scholarships for bright students that are struggling
financially. DreamOval has developed a suite of
products targeted at the Ghanaian financial services
industry. |

Class of 2007 sets
career placement record
Breaking the record set by Ashesi Class of 2006, ninety
seven percent of the Class of 2007 received job offers
within two months of graduation, and the entire class
received offers within four months of graduation. |

Ashesi hosts social science research methods workshop
Ashesi University partnered with the
Institute of Development Studies (IDS), University of Sussex
to organize a four-day Research Methods workshop. The
workshop was funded by a grant from the England-Africa
Partnerships in Higher Education (EAP) programme and was
attended by faculty from top universities throughout the
country. The workshop provided important insights into
best practices for conducting general research but placed
emphasis on qualitative research. |

Prof Apt's latest book launched
On
February 14th, 2008, Ashesi University College hosted the
launch of Learning How to Play to Win a book written by
Prof. Nana Araba Apt, the University’s Dean of Academic
Affairs. The book provides a “returnee’s” view of what
impact 50 years of independence has had on Ghana. Prof. Apt
examines the fundamental issue: why is Ghana poor?
Specifically she asks: why has Ghana not achieved much
social and economic progress? Why have Ghanaians refused to
act in ways that will uplift us to greater political and
cultural heights? |

Students adopt Honour
Code at Ashesi
Ashesi students have voted an Examination Honour Code into
force, marking a significant
event in the history of Ashesi University.
The code is
intended to build a high-trust community and to put students in
charge of their ethical posture and the reputation of their alma
mater.
Students are excited and
challenged by the prospect of maintaining high ethical standards
and holding each other accountable during examinations. |
