Ashesi is a place of many beginnings. As a community we continually welcome new ideas, new programmes and new people. From orientation through to graduation students are exposed to a kaleidoscope of new experiences that are life changing. At orientation students learn about the need to have an open mindset which charts the path for their success at Ashesi and beyond. At Ashesi students develop new friendships as they work on course projects, learn and participate in the university’s passion to train a new generation of ethical, entrepreneurial leaders for Africa. We achieve our mission in a variety of ways. First, our clearly defined Learning Goals are embedded in curricular and co curricular activities. Second, our students take leadership courses every year and third we engage in frequent dialogue about creating an honourable community at Ashesi and in the wider society. We have many firsts at Ashesi. Our students were the first to elect a female student council president and the first student community in the country to sign on to an honour code. What makes Ashesi unique is the amicable relationship that exists between staff and students. It is not uncommon to find students and lecturers having lunch together, working on a research project or playing against each other in the annual student vs. faculty/staff soccer match. We are a close-knit community of learners, scholars and citizens. Through our mentoring programme, town hall meetings, community dinners, talent shows, members of the community come together and learn about one another and discuss issues of common concern. These are the reasons why I enjoy being a part of Ashesi and encourage you to come discover it and become a part of something unique. Warmest wishes, Mrs. Adzo Ashie |
